If your email client is Eudora, here is a quick guide on how to set up Eudora to send and receive email for Mac (see special updates, below!)

You will need to look through the information you got from your ISP (Internet Service Provider) or your host, and find out the following information. Once you have it, you are ready to set up Eudora.

  •     Your POP or mail server:
  •     Your SMTP or outgoing mail server:
  •     Your e-mail login name:
  •     Your e-mail address:

Now you are ready to get started!

  1. In Eudora, go to the SPECIAL menu and select SETTINGS.
  2. In the Options window, you will see several icons on the left. Select GETTING STARTED.
  3. In the USERNAME field, enter the login name given to you by your internet service provider. For example: eudora-user.
  4. In the MAIL SERVER field, enter the POP or mail server that was given to you by your internet service provider. For example: pop-server.eudoramail.com.
  5. In the REAL NAME field, type your name the way you would like people to see it when they get e-mail from you. For example, John Doe.
  6. In the SMTP SERVER field, enter the SMTP or Outgoing mail server that was given to you by your internet service provider. For example: smtp-server.eudoramail.com.
  7. In the RETURN ADDRESS field, enter your e-mail address. For example: eudora-user@eudoramail.com.
  8. Click OK.

You have completed the basic setup. You should now be able to send and receive email in Eudora.

SPECIAL UPDATE AS OF JUNE 2011

Important Announcement about Mac Eudora and Apple OS X 10.7 “Lion”

Mac Eudora WILL NOT run under Mac OS X 10.7 and later.

In Mac OS X 10.7 “Lion”, Apple has removed support for “Rosetta”. It is Rosetta that allows Mac Eudora to continue to run under Mac OS X (up to and including OS X 10.6 “Snow Leopard”). Once you upgrade to OS X 10.7, Mac Eudora will no longer function. Before upgrading to OS X “Lion”, be sure to transfer all of your mail to another email client as you will no longer be able to access your mail using Mac Eudora.
